Welcome to RETRONET,
occasionally called the Retro-Box Network. Retronet is an ongoing
project of mine to embrace the quirks, nostalgia, and fun of vintage
(retro) computers and technology, and this site is an embodiment of
this. The Retro-Box Network is a general community that is centered
around vintage and just plain old technology, but also welcomes the
slightly off-topic (gaming, beta software, general computer discussion)
and the really off-topic
(Douglas Adams, food, writing novels).
The rules are few, the discussion is open, and the admin is (usually) nice, so click around a bit! You might just like it.
Update: Mar 6, 2013 A little bit of downtime last month from some random server freezes. Not entirely sure what caused it yet but power-cycling the server a couple times seemed to fix it. I'll hopefully be setting up a backup server at my other house soon for load balancing and backup.
Update: Feb 16, 2013 Some site rearrangements accidentally ate the Blog. I'm working on restoring the Wordpress from nothing more than a single database table. This should be fun. Also, there's now a slightly altered look to the site which I hope makes it look a bit less flat and boring. There has also been the inclusion of locally-hosted fonts so you should be seeing this in all of its beautiful typeface glory. Because browser default fonts are lame
Update: Feb 15, 2013 Well, we have successfully made it through a month of running from my basement. In that amount of time there has been a couple of days of downtime due to a power outage, a bit of re-structuring of the IRC network, and an IRC Quotes Database was added. Also now available is the RetroNet Awsome Talking Thing Mumble Server available by pointing your Mumble client at retro-box.net.
Update: Jan 1, 2013 Happy New Years! You are now looking at the 2013 redesign of the Retro-Box Network. Notice anything different? Well, you shouldn't. The redesign was more or less completely technical as I moved from each page being individual html pages to being a php framework. More or less what this means is I will be able to more easily update the site with more pages, hopefully leading to more content. I am now also hosting the site out of my house again from an eMachines eTower 633. Let's see how this works...
